More “The Wire” links

Episode 4 airs tonight. With Ep5 going up on OD later tommorrow. I’ve seen up to Ep7 thanks to the wonderful world of torrents. And it’s exciting to see what unfolds!

Here are some really interesting articles/interviews about the greatest TV show of all time. (Thanks to Bill Simmons and Wikipedia for the links)

A Washington Post article looking at the this seasons take on the media.

An NPR interview with Micheal K. Williams, the actor who plays Omar, the shotgun totting, gay, Robin Hood.

Mark Bowden’s piece in the Atlantic about David Simon and the show. Mark Bowden also wrote Black Hawk Down, the non-fiction book that the movie was based off of. Probably one of my favorite books I’ve read in the past 5 years.

Just to reinforce how The Wire captures the authentic nature of the life it is trying to depict…Nytimes is running a portion of their blog Freakanomics where they watch the show with actually thugs, dealers, gangsters. Enjoyable reading. Part 1. Part 2. Part 3.

The New Yorker profiles David Simon.

The Washington Post’s review of the current season.

Time magazines’s review of the 5th season.

Nick Hornby’s interview with David Simon.

And lastly, for now, a few YT Wire links.

This is David Simon and Richard Price talking at an event. There’s an especially funny anecdote about a popular character’s death in Season 3. Spoiler if you haven’t seen the show!

Part 1 of David Simon’s End of the American Empire lecture at Loyola Marymount College. An extremely fascinating lecture on what David Simon feels is truly what the Wire is all about.
